Nothing like getting your ass handed to you.......

But OMG can we say fun fun fun fun. Sunday we had a family day. We were invited out to a friend's farm. So after taking forever to pack up six kiddos and myself we headed out.

My friend bought a farm that was built in 1928. To say the least the house was awesome and if possible the barn was equally impressive. The accompanying rolling hills were perfect for the family activity. We were going four wheeling. Mind you in all my 46 years I have never been.

We had three drivers and three riders as my daughter had ridden previously and rolled one and was not anxious to repeat the experience. It turned out to be one of those situations where you think you know your kiddos and reality show us something different.

I was sure that my 15yr old would try to daredevil with the ATVs and my 19yr old we be more cautious. This strictly is an observation on my part of their personalities. We all got a brief on how to and what not to do and off we went.

We rode over the hills and switched riders. All of us ventured up a particularly steep hill. Three ATVs went up and two came down. I look up and there sits my 15yr old shaking his head. So I call up to him and he states no way he is coming back down. I responded by asking him if he wanted me to come up. He quickly responded while jumping off the ATV I don't care what you do I just know I am not the that's going to bring it down.

So I parked went of the hill drove his down walked back up and retrieved the ATV I was driving and our afternoon of fun continued. I am still reeling it was such a blast. We spent the whole afternoon riding around. Then close to the end of the day mind you all the kiddos were wearing helmets. I however was not. I know I know. Practice what you preach mom.

We were wrapping up the day and the 19yr old was trying to coax his sister to ride with him. My kiddos looked at me and were like, Mom where is your helmet. I said I am fine as I have been riding all afternoon without one. She finally got on and we took off.

I went up the hill and over the embankment only to realize I was too close to the fence line. Anyone who has driven an ATV know there is no power steering. (gumby arms here) Memo to self start working out. Anyway in attempt to steer clear of this I was trying to turn but thanks to a lovely pile of dirt by the fence line I ended up banking off that and rolled.

Needless say all was okay except for some bruises and a good bang up job to my body. Quick thinking on my part and my niece was able to roll away and came away virtually unscathed. So needless to say I got my ass handed to me by Mother Nature placing the importance of why one should be wearing a helmet.

I am thankful not to be hurt any worse than I was but man I cannot wait to go again. What a blast and the whole family enjoyed it. A wonderful family day spent out in the country.
